History

In 1967, Jerald Good started Focus Enterprises, Inc., an affiliated company of Focus Educational Institute. The Focus family brings over 40 years of experience in hotel development, management, and operation, with award winning recognition from the largest hotel brand in the world, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). The company currently employs over 500 exceptional people.

Focus has developed residential communities, apartments projects, restaurants, commercial retail projects, indoor sport and recreational facilities, intermediate and long-term skilled nursing homes, and most recently, a chain of more than 20 limited and full-service hotels and indoor water parks in the Midwest. Focus is a vertically integrated company with experienced personnel who oversee, develop and manage each stage of the development, construction and management cycles of new ventures.

Focus Educational Institute derives from a long history of hotel development, construction and management. Its affiliate company has developed over 50 hotels, including Holiday Inn, Hilton, Marriott, and Candlewood and has won various awards for Quality Excellence. The company was named 2004 Developer of the Year by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).

To train it’s own hospitality professionals, Focus developed a training program called Focus on Excellence which has received high acclaim from the hotel industry. The success of the Focus on Excellence program has lead to the creation of FEI. Today’s hospitality industry is looking for qualified, job-ready managers. The FEI program gives individuals the necessary skills to advance their careers in today’s challenging hospitality industry.

In 1990,  Focus developed an internal program to train its own hotel managers and staff. That program, which became known as Focus on Excellence, is in use today at all Focus hotels and has been acknowledged and acclaimed by the family of IHG hotels.  This very successful program, once only offered to Focus employees, is now offered to everyone.
